Effects of Education of Evidence-Based Guideline for Undernutrition Management on Nurses¡¯ Awareness and Performance about Evidence-Based Guideline
Kim Eun-Kyoung

Abstract
Purpose: This study was to evaluate the gap between nurses¡¯ awareness and performance toward evidence-based guideline for undernutrition management in the elderly.

Methods: Research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. A total of 48 nurses were recruited from two geriatric hospital, South Korea and were assigned to an experimental(n=21) A geriatric hospital, and control group(n=27) B geriatric hospital. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, ¥ö2-test, t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test with SPSS Window 19.0 program.

Results: The first hypothesis, ??the experimental group will experience a higher degree of nurses¡¯ awareness about undernutrition management than the control group??, was supported(Z=-1.996, p=.046). The second hypothesis, ??the experimental group will benefit from improved nurses¡¯ performance in undernutrition management than the control group??, was supported(Z=-1.985, p=.047). Conclusion. This guideline is expected to contribute to improving nursing quality by offering it as a guide to evidence-based nursing practice for undernutrition in the elderly. Therefore it would like to strongly recommend to be used in nursing practice guidelines for undernutrition management in the elderly.
